Andy Johnston has over 38 years’ experience in mental health services. He is a clinician who has operated at Director level in the statutory, independent and professional sectors and has a demonstrable track record of achievement in developing services and supporting organisations through their workforce. He was previously a Clinical Director for 2 large NHS Trusts and for over 4 years Hospital Director for a successful independent secure hospital. He continues to work as an Expert Clinical Advisor to a number of statutory and non- statutory organisations and has delivered a number of national quality improvement programmes within mental health services. He has significant experience evaluating services and has reviewed or supported the development of over 70 services in the past 15 years. He has also supported the development of Mental Health Services in Iceland, Belgium, Spain and Ireland. Andy is an experienced investigator and has carried out high level investigations including Health and Social Care Act Section 48 Special Reviews (for the CQC as an Expert Clinical Advisor), Jimmy Savile Legacy investigations, Public Information Disclosure Act (PIDA) investigations and patient death investigations. He also is a registered Patient Safety Specialist.

Targeted ‘learning set days’ where teams can learn and grow together focussing on a specific topic or group of subjects are often identified through teambuilding Away Days or Service Reviews.
